The Importance of Finding a Patient-Centered Dental Practice

Imagine this:

You’ve arrived at the dentist’s office for your visit. You open the door and are immediately hit in the face with the harsh smell of disinfectant. You want to check in, but the receptionist behind the sliding glass window doesn’t acknowledge your existence until several minutes have passed (and their phone call has ended). You finally check in, filling out endless forms, and then take a seat for a long wait on one of the worn-out chairs, where you can pass the time by reading a months-old lifestyle magazine or watching the static-y TV in the corner.

You feel like a name on a file rather than a person. Is it any wonder?

This is not how we run our practice. On the contrary, we follow the Patient-Centered Model of care. We put the patient first, prioritizing their wants and needs, focusing on clear communication, and providing a high level of treatment to deliver a truly exceptional experience.

Our Patient-Centered Dental Practice is Comfortable and Relaxed

We’ve worked hard to make sure that every visit to our practice is a stress-free experience for our patients.

Even before you reach the waiting room, you see the sign easily from the road, so you know you’re in the right place. You park in a spot right out front, where our parking attendant will greet you and assist you. You come inside to find that the waiting room, like the other common areas, is clean and comfortable, with no medical disinfectant smell. While you wait, you can connect to free wifi or get a refreshment from the small refrigerator.  Treatment rooms are soothing to reduce anxiety. You’re greeted with soft lighting, tasteful décor, and comfortable furniture rather than intimidating medical equipment.

We believe the environment is important to your treatment, which is why every step of the way has been designed to give you a five-star experience.

Patients Feel Important, Respected, and Understood

Part of feeling valued as a patient is feeling that you’re respected and understood. We know this.

We respect your time. Here are just a few of the small ways we do that:

  • Your phone call is answered right away – by a real person. No long, automated phone menus and messages that waste your time and leave you frustrated.
  • Your schedule is accommodated. We strive to be flexible when it comes to scheduling, because we know that life is hectic.
  • You’re greeted quickly at the reception desk. Walking in, you’ll be greeted by a friendly receptionist at an uncluttered desk who’s ready to help you.

We respect your money. We develop treatment plans based on the care you need, not what we think you can pay, as we’ve seen in many non-patient-centered practices. We never oversell or upsell our services, and if treatment is more than you can afford, we work with you to figure out a way to get the care you need.

We respect your decisions. Ultimately, we are here to serve you. We share our expertise, advice, and guidance, but we empower you to make the decisions that are right for you and your family, whatever they may be.

Patients Feel Satisfied, Cared For, and Listened To

Providing patient-centered care means the patient’s needs are put ahead of our own. By feeling listened to and cared for, they find more satisfaction in their experience.

We make sure this happens by being proactive about training every member of the team to provide you the best experience possible. Our team is trained to meet the needs of both the dentist and the patient, so everything goes as smoothly as possible. This extensive training ensures a friendly, positive, and supportive atmosphere at every point during your visit.

Finding a Patient-Centered Dental Practice

Even if you’ve never heard the term before, hopefully you understand what it means to go to a “patient-centered” dental practice. In essence, it’s about knowing that you’ll be respected and treated well, have a comfortable enjoyable experience, and have your needs put first, ahead of anything else. We do this with all of our patients because we believe it’s the right thing to do, and because we hope that when we make your needs our number one priority, you may make us your number one dentist.
